Initial ConsultationYour initial appointment will consist of a consultation explaining your diagnosis and treatment options. Occasionally, surgery can be done the same day as the consultation. However, a complex medical history or treatment plan will require an evaluation and a second appointment to provide treatment on another day.

Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation:

  • Your surgical referral slip and any X-rays if applicable
  • A list of medications you are presently taking
  • If you have medical or dental insurance, bring the necessary completed forms. This will save time and allow us to help you process any claims.

Orthognathic Surgery Consultations

The orthognathic surgery consultation room includes the Orthovision Imaging system. This new generation orthognathic treatment planner allows patients to see the relationship between soft tissue and hard tissue changes and predicts the facial changes associated with the orthognathic surgical procedures. It also provides accurate data on skeletofacial analysis and is an excellent help in orthognathic treatment planning.

Implant Consultations

The consultation area is equipped with Denti-Scan, a computer based radiographic analysis program. Our patients can now undergo CT scan with data being placed on an optical disk for computer scanning. this data can then be analyzed to provide information on both quantity and quality of bone. This is important in predetermining the adequacy of available bone. This also gives us the ability to determine in a non-invasive way whether bone graft augmentation procedures are indicated, as well as accurately determining implant size, placement and angulation. The exciting point of this new technology is that it does not significantly increase the overall cost of dental implants and provides a unique opportunity for detailed preoperative treatment planning.

Facial Imaging Consultations

Our facial imaging computer center produces realistic determinations of aesthetic changes that can be provided to patients. Computer technology allows accurate cephalometric digitizing and color imaging of the soft tissue projections. We are able to show patients understandable images of the changes that will occur with corrective jaw surgery. This significantly helps patients understand and visualize the nature of aesthetic changes.

Radiology

This department is designed with a state of the art combination panorex/cephalometric/tomographic unit. It can also produce axially-corrected temporomandibular joint tomography, as well as general head and neck radiographs. The accuracy and predictability of theis unit is much improved over previous units, as is the speed by which axially-corrected temporomandibular joint radiographs can be taken.

Minor Treatment:

IMPORTANT: All patients under the age of 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the consultation visit.

General Considerations:

A pre-operative consultation and physical examination is mandatory for patients undergoing IV anesthesia for surgery. Please have nothing to eat or drink 8 hours prior to your surgery. You will also need an adult to drive you home.

Please alert the office if you have a medical condition that may be of concern prior to surgery (i.e. diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves and joints, rheumatic fever, etc.) or if you are on any medication (i.e. heart medications, aspirin, anticoagulant therapy, etc.)

X-Ray

If your dentist or physician has taken x-rays, you may request that they forward them to our office. If there is not enough time, please pick them up and bring them to our office. If additional films are necessary, they can be taken at our facility.
